Lombok means in Javanese "Chili Pfeiffer", is less smaller than Bali. Round over Lombok stretch unspoiled white Sand beach . The three biggest City in the west of Island are Ampenan, Mataram and Cakranegara, but meanwhile it grew together to 6 km long City. In the west there is still an intact of Balinese Commonwealth . The Balinese Temples in Lombok are great and belongs to the pictures of the west island. The native people, Sasak, was confronted already in 17 age with the Islam. But not so successfully, because the old animistic religion plays continuing a big roll. Today are many Moslem to see from the past immigrant and the tourism still stick in the bottom, because come just less visitors to Lombok. You know it after the home people stared at you as like people from another planet. Sometime children of the village run excitedly behind the strangers. If you hear about the story of black magic, you shouldn't necessarily belief it. They just want to say that the visitors don't come frequently.
